Donated Music Materials Program

Through its Donated Music Materials Program, MLA, as the U.S. national branch of IAML facilitates the donation of music, books, journals, and recordings to libraries in East-Central and Southeast Europe, republics of the former Soviet Union, Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Pacific Ocean countries. Inaugurated in 1995, the program solicits lists of available materials in good condition that will be circulated to libraries abroad. Potential recipients contact donors directly to request specific items on a first-come-first-served basis. Donors must be willing to retain materials for one year to allow for sufficient time to receive requests. Shipping expenses are usually covered by the individual donor or donating institution, but libraries may apply for a Neil Ratliff IAML Outreach Grant for reimbursement.

Lists of available materials should be forwarded to Marjorie Hassen, the director of the program. Each item should be accompanied by a brief bibliographic description (composer/author, title and publication information for books and music; date and volume number for journals; composer, title, performer, manufacturer and issue number for recordings). Your current address (postal and electronic) should also be included.

The lists of available materials may be found at: http://www.library.upenn.edu/collections/music/IAML
If you are interested in receiving any of these items please contact the individual donor directly. Since we receive so many requests, and it is our goal to assist as many institutions as possible, please refrain from requesting all of the items on a particular list. In your correspondence indicate whether or not you are able to absorb the costs involved in shipment as well as any specific shipping instructions. Also, please be aware that all materials must be shipped to an institutional address.
