General Information
The Catalog Librarian is responsible for the cataloging of library materials in all formats, with special focus on audio-visual formats and also provides assistance to the Coordinator of Firestone Library Services.
Position Details
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  •  Performs original cataloging of library material in all formats 
  •  Upgrades and/or enhances bibliographic records in the national database (OCLC) 
  •  Evaluates and edits bibliographic records in the local database (FLO) 
  •  Performs authority work and maintains bibliographic data in the FLO database 
  •  Keeps current with developments in national cataloging trends in order to recommend changes in cataloging policy and procedures in accordance with national standards for bibliographic description 
  •  Documents departmental procedures 
  •  Supervises Firestone Library student workers in absence of Coordinator of Firestone Library Services 
  •  Submits recommendations for  collection development of audio-visual materials to the Coordinator of Firestone Library Services 
  •  Assists library patrons in the use of library materials, the library catalog and reference questions
      
Qualifications
  •  Masters in Library Science and Bachelor’s in Music required.
       
  • Knowledge of and experience with RDA, OCLC, MARC formats, and automated library software such as Endeavor.
       
  • Experience cataloging sound recordings required; experience cataloging video recordings highly desirable.
       
  • Working knowledge of most European languages (especially French, German & Italian).
       
  • Thorough knowledge of standard repertoire in all performance areas.
       
  • Good communication skills.
